A very rare photograph of the turbine unit. They were to a design by James Stirling originally the Q class of the South Eastern Railway. It is clear from the excellent drawings that Peter has a keen interest in Locomotives manufactured by Beyer Peacock.
Since no other overseas manufacturers were available to supply them they were built by Hunslet-Taylor in Germiston using boilers supplied by their overseas principals the Hunslet Engine Company in England.
